Constant Moussavou has left the UK
"Thank you all for your letters/support unfortunately the Home Office did not want to listen and Constant was removed to Congo Brazzaville on Wednesday 9th September. We have not heard from him since. Please let me know if anyone does here from or of him."
Yours sincerely,
Priya Thamotheram, Chair, Leicester Civil Rights Movement.
Fifth attempt to remove Constant Moussavou
Constant Moussavou, a national of Congo Brazzaville, and resident of Leicester a long time activist/member of Leicester Civil Rights Movement (LCRM). Is currently detained in Campsfield House IRC and due to be forcibly removed from the UK on Wednesday 9th September on Ethiopian Airlines Flight ET701 at 21:35 to Addis Ababa then ET831 to Brazzaville Congo.
This will be the fifth attempt to remove Constant!
Constant is a long-standing member of Leicester Civil Rights Movement and until his detention, he has attended our meetings regularly and made a very positive contribution. He has worked with all nationalities and attended conferences on our behalf and contributed to our newsletter (Insaf). Constant is honest and has helped other LCRM members. He was also a church warden in Leicester and thought of highly by the church.
There is no free speech in Congo Brazzaville as confirmed by Freedom House in 2008. Constant was an active member of the Union Pour la Democratic Sociale (UPADS) where he campaigned for freedom of speech and democracy until he had to flee the country. His brother, also active in the organisation, disappeared and has never been seen since and we now know that his two younger sisters, Pelagie and Felicite, died in 2007 after being arrested by the republic's authorities.
At the very least, Constant will be imprisoned if he returns and given his brother and sisters' fate, we fear he will also be killed. Prison conditions in Congo Brazzaville are appalling and amount to inhumane torture. Constant has no family members or friends in Congo Brazzaville who can support him.

"Constant was put on an Air France flight to Brazzaville via Paris on Monday morning but he was refused transit at Paris and "bounced" back to Heathrow later that night and he is now in Campsfield Detention Centre.

Second attempt to remove Constant Moussavou (Posted 22/01/09)
Constant Moussavou, a national of Congo Brazzaville, resident of Leicester a long time activist/member of Leicester Civil Rights Movement (LCRM) was detained by the Border and Immigration Authority on Tuesday 11th November 2008 and currently detained in Oakington Immigration Removal Centre, due to be forcibly removed from the UK tomorrow Friday 23rd January 2009 on Ethiopian Airlines flight ET701 (ET831) from Heathrow at 21:00 hrs.
Some basic facts about Constant's case: Age: 33 years, birthplace: Nguenda, Republic of Congo (Brazaville). Marital Status: Partner and 2 children fled to his in-laws' village in 1998 to escape from the war and he has not seen them since. Date of arrival in UK: 2003
Reasons for seeking asylum: Constant was an active member and organiser of the Union Pan Africaine Pour la Democratie Sociale (UPADS). His brother was imprisoned in 2000 by the RCB government and he has not seen him since. Constant was arrested with 42 other UPADS members in June 2003. With some help from a local official, he managed to escape and arrived in south London where he was attacked by a gang of white racists and suffered a head injury.
Immigration Status: Constant's appeal against his failed asylum application has been refused as have all appeals and reconsiderations.
Community Involvement: Constant has been a regular member of LCRM and he is also an active member of his local Church group (see article from local Leicester news paper) . His work as a Street Pastor in Leicester City Centre, where with others he has this year joined other Street Pastors patrolling the streets of the city centre at night time, working amongst the clubbers, homeless people and others in vulnerable and difficult situations cannot be valued!
Canon Barry Naylor, parish priest of the Abbey and Holy Spirit team ministries in Leicester, says that "several of Constant's political colleagues have gone missing since returning to the country and that it was a most unsuitable place to be sending anyone. Constant has made such a positive contribution, especially in his role as a voluntary street pastor, working late into the night, especially on behalf of the homeless".

The Bishop of Leicester, the Rt Revd Tim Stevens, has spoken to offer his strong support for the case of Constant Mouily-Moussavou, who is currently detained in Oakington detention centre facing deportation. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Rowan Williams has also offered his full support.
Bishop Tim states “I have been monitoring the case of Constant Moussavou for the last few weeks ever since he was detained whilst reporting in to the immigration centre in Loughborough. Constant has been detained in Oakington detention centre since then and the Home Office are seeking to deport him back to the Congo.
Constant Moussavou / Still Here, Still fighting (Posted 17/11/08)
"Good news for now – Late Friday afternoon the Home Office has agreed to indefinitely stay the deportation order, pending the outcome of the judicial review hearing. Constant is very happy and would like to thank all of the people who’ve supported him, especially over the last 2 - 3 days. On behalf of Leicester Civil Rights Movement (LCRM), I’d also like to thank Peter Soulsby, Canon Naylor and his colleagues, NCADC/supporters and all of you for your representations over these last few critical days and hours. Constant is back in Oakington IRC and arrangements will have to be made for his release on bail, a matter that will be progressed by his new solicitors – please let me know if you are able to contribute towards the bail sum. The fight to make sure Constant remains in Leicester still goes on and LCRM will welcome your continued support – our next monthly meeting will be held on Wednesday 26th November at 7:00pm at the TREC office, Epic House, Lower Hill Street, Leicester. We’d be delighted to see you there!" Thanks once again and best wishes.
