I am writing this letter to you to ask that you refuse to fly Armand on the BA flight for these compelling reasons outlined below: An attempt to remove Armand was made at the end of Jan 2007 after his asylum application had been refused and appeal rights exhausted. Armand alleges, whilst being escorted to the Airport he suffered racist verbal abuse, was beaten severely and sustained such injuries that his leg needed to be put in plaster before he was returned to detention. He has since instructed a Solicitor to act on his behalf to issue a Civil Action complaint and this is due to be heard in court when all the necessary evidence has been gathered. Armand was forced to leave Cameroon because after inheriting his Father's estate his older half brothers put out a death threat against him. It is a custom in Cameroon for the First Born son to inherit the Father's estate, but Armand was a younger son and, in making Armand the beneficiary, his father was going against tradition. Armand's half brothers were outraged by this and set out to kill him, destroying his home and his own mother's plantation and had Armand not escaped, they would have succeeded in killing him. Vendettas such as this over reasons of inheritance are not unusual and a death threat continues to be pursued until the person who issued it dies or the person it is against dies. Armand's brothers boast in a death threat letter of their strong links and affiliations with Police and Political Authorities in Cameroon and so Armand would be in great danger if he were to be returned. Armand has suffered greatly as a result of the death of his father and his forced departure from his Mother and friends in the Cameroon and also for the injustices he has suffered in the UK. It is essential that he is able to stay in the UK for the court hearing for his Civil Action claim and to be able to re-open his Asylum claim with the fresh evidence he has gathered. I strongly request that you refuse to fly Armand to potential persecution so that he can stay in the UK to have both his asylum case re-opened with the fresh evidence he has managed to obtain, and for the duration of his Civil Action Claim process so that he is able to exercise his right to be fully involved in his own attempts to secure justice for himself. Please do all that you can to ensure that he is able to remain in the UK as the dangers outlined below apply particularly to him. Amand says warrant for his arrest was issued by Cameroonian police in 2001 and in 2006, and that he will be hounded down and killed if returned to Cameroon. This is of most pressing concern along with the requirements of his Civil Action case. USA Country Report on Human Rights Practices: Cameroon 2006; "The government's human rights record remained poor, and it continued to commit numerous human rights abuses. Security forces committed numerous unlawful killings; they regularly engaged in torture, beatings, and other abuses, particularly of detainees and prisoners. Impunity was a problem in the security forces. Prison conditions were harsh and life threatening. Authorities arbitrarily arrested and detained Anglophone citizens advocating secession, local human rights monitors and activists, and other citizens." Please give Armand the protection he so desperately needs, by refusing to carry him on your Airline on the 22nd August.
