Economic Migrants - Without them where would we be?

A new document from the European Civic Forum, offers an overview of the exploitation of migrants in European agriculture.

It argues that 3D jobs, Degrading, Dirty and Dangerous, most often those in hotels and restaurants, domestic work, office cleaning, construction industry, textiles and agriculture are extensively done by migrants 'Sans Papiers' without papers - that is without rights or protection.

While it is known that migrants traditionally do work that we won't for wages we wouldn't accept in conditions we would refuse to work in, this paper highlights the way in which agricultural employers in particular play undocumented migrants of different nationalities off against each other for economic gain. Increasingly, women migrants from eastern europe are being used to undercut North African workers, who are demanding rights and better conditions.
