Church Occupation ( with support from the Revd Andy Byng), to help Iraqi
Kurds who are losing their homes, and opposing new legislation that will
deny any help to thousands of refugees.
Saturday 21st December 2002
11.00am - 2.00pm
Grovehill Methodist Church
Marton Road
Middlesbrough
(near Bellevue Shops and Aldi)
Speakers from the Iraqi & Kurdish communities
There are 6,000 Iraqi Kurds who have lost their asylum claims in the
UK & therefore their housing & financial support: they are not
allowed to work, yet the Government cannot return them to Iraq. Also,
from the 8th January, an estimated 700 new arrivals each week will be
denied any support whatsoever & no right to work while their asylum
claims are being considered (can take up to 2 years).
Join the occupation to protest against this inhumane *act & to show
solidarity with our sisters & brothers who have fled persecution merely
to seek a safe refuge
Bring blankets, sleeping bags, camp beds, flasks of soup, etc to highlight
the poverty facing people seeking asylum in the UK.
If you can't be there, send a message of 'Solidarity' to be read
out at the occupation.
