A man's
a man for a' that, say 'Friends of Refugees Ayrshire'
Demonstrate

Sunday 26th January
Dungavel Removal/Detention Centre
Strathaven
South
Lanarkshire ML10 6RF
Friends
of Refugees Ayrshire will be proclaiming the sentiments of Burn's Poetry
outside Dungavel Removal/Detention Centre on Sunday 26th January at 1.30.
The
Group who support refugees and oppose the Government's Asylum and Immigration
legislation have been holding regular vigils and demonstrations outside
the detention centre since it opened.
A
spokesperson for the group Graeme Cumming said," Throughout Scotland,
on that weekend, thousands will be proclaiming,
"it's
coming yet, for a' that
that man to man the world o'er
shall brithers be an a' that. "
Robert
Burns, 1759-1796
Yet
children and adults are being locked up and deported whose only wish is
to be left in peace but who have had to flee there own country to find
it. The Government have demonised Refugees and have brought in the most
racist and repressive immigration laws ever seen in this country. We intend
to show those who are incarcerated in Dungavel that there is an opposition
to their persecution, and that there are "Brithers and sisters" in Scotland."
The
group will welcome anyone to come with them on the day and to be involved
in there other activities. They
meet on the second Monday of the month in Woodlands Centre Kilwinning
Rd. Irvine
If you can't
be there send a message of solidarity to be read out at the demo c/o:

'Friends
of Refugees Ayrshire'
Scotland as a nation has been forged
over the centuries by the arrival on these shores of people from all parts
of the globe and from many different backgrounds.
Each
of them brought a small part of their country and enriched the character
and distinctive identity of the tartan patchwork nation we know today.
Engrained in these characteristics are
world renowned qualities of Hospitality, Tolerance, and Commitment
to Social Justice with an outward looking attitude to our fellow
citizens on this small planet of ours.
In Ayrshire, where the legacy of internationally
recognised figures of the stature of Robert Burns and Keir Hardie are
steeped in our local history, we find it unacceptable that a Refugee Detention
Centre will operate on our doorstep at Dungavel near Strathaven.
Responding to this organisation has been
formed, named, "Friends of the refugees from Ayrshire" ( FReA), committed
to opposing the policy of detention of refugees, contrary to the spirit
of the 1951 'U.N Convention of Refugees'
We urge you to support this campaign and
join together in seeking the abolition of IMPRISONMENT (Detention) of
refugees in our country and express your support also for people already
detained at Dungavel and other prisons in Scotland.
