" Campaigning is never a waste of time and effort!"

"We feel that every Anti-Deportation campaign, whether successful or not, highlights the in-humanity and social injustice of UK immigration laws, and helps to educate and inform more people about the reality behind the rantings of the racist media and politicians."     Tayyip Oruc Campaign

Dear Colleagues,

Many thanks to everyone who sent faxes to the immigration minister in an attempt to stay the deportation of Tayyip Oruc on Sunday 8th June.  Together with his MP Dari Taylor and further submissions from the campaign, Tayyip's deportation was stayed.

However, all submissions were refused almost immediately, and despite further attempts to get evidence accepted by immigration, Tayyip was deported to Turkey at 11.40 this morning (Thursday 12th June).

Tayyip claimed asylum in the UK five years ago, and held out against his removal for almost three years.  Despite being detained for 7 months two years ago, he never gave up hope of being allowed to stay, and it is thanks to everyone who signed petitions, wrote letters and gave him encouragement and support that he managed to sustain his fight for justice.

Sadly on this occasion the campaign failed, but Tayyip wanted us to let everyone know how much he appreciated your support, especially Dari Taylor MP and the National Coalition of Anti-Deportation Campaigns.

Tayyip doesn't regret a single minute of campaigning as he felt it gave him added strength and confidence, and at least a chance of living in safety and security - a chance he felt was well worth fighting for.

We do not know for sure what will greet Tayyip upon his arrival, but with past knowledge and recent information, failed and returned asylum seekers will be interrogated and probably imprisoned and tortured for 'damaging the reputation' of Turkey.

We feel that every Anti-Deportation campaign, whether successful or not, highlights the in-humanity and social injustice of UK immigration laws, and helps to educate and inform more people about the reality behind the rantings of the racist media and politicians.

Thanks once again to all those who faxed/wrote  and signed petitions to keep Tayyip in the UK.

Campaigning is never a waste of time and effort!

Keep up the fight for a halt to all unjust deportations.
