| Fhami
Must Not Die
Fhami Khalaf, a Kurdish refugee from Syria
has been on a hunger strike for 40 days in an attempt to persuade the
Home Secretary to allow him to stay.
He came to the UK in December 2000 fleeing persecution as a member of
the Kurdish minority in Syria and also a member of the Kurdish opposition
party. Although he has two brothers who have been granted asylum, his
claim was refused. Fhami was detained when he went to report to a police
station in Nelson, Lancashire on 7 September 2003, and he was later taken
to Campsfield Detention Centre near Oxford.
However he harmed himself by badly burning his body with an iron, and
was transferred to Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. Fhami stopped eating
from the time he was detained, due to fear of being returned to an oppressive
regime.
Immigration officials then moved him to Harmondsworth Removal/Detention
Centre, where he is at the present moment.Fhami is now in an extremely
critical situation and needs your urgent support.
He now needs medical attention that Harmondsworth Removal/Detention
Centre cannot provide and Fhami should be transferred to a hospital immediately.
