Zimbabweans
to protest outside the House of Lords
Stop the Detentions! Stop the Deportations!
Wednesday 9th March 2005
2.30pm-6.00pm
Parliament Square opposite the House of Lords
(Nearest tube: Westminster, Circle & District)
The House of Lords will be holding a three-hour debate on Zimbabwe
on Wednesday the 9th March.
Despite a chronic deterioration of the Human Rights situation in
Zimbabwe and expected to become worse as the country comes closer
to the elections on the 31st of this month. The Home Office have
resumed the deportation of Zimbabweans after a two-year suspension.
Even though the UNHCR again advised the UK Government (on the 20th
December 2004) that they should not carry out forced removals to
Zimbabwe. Or that the European Union have renewed sanctions against
Zimbabwe the UK government being the most vociferous in arguing
for the continuing the sanctions.
Zimbabwe Community Campaign to Defend Asylum Seekers (ZCCDAS) will
hold a protest outside the House of Lords for the duration of the
debate. ZCCDAS will concentrate on highlighting the 'racism and
violence that detainees and deportees not just Zimbabweans but all
those facing detention and deportation can be subjected to by the
private companies that manage the UK detention estate on behalf
of the government.
So regardless of your nationality or your status in the UK, ZCCDAS
ask you all to join them outside the House of Lords next Wednesday.
Many thanks,
Gavin Capps ZCCDAS National organizer
