Get involved: Management Committee Members

THE WORK OF NCADC

From bases in Brighton and in Glasgow, two full-time Campaign Coordinators and a small team of volunteers work to support individuals and groups to launch and run campaigns against forced removal from the UK.

NCADC is governed by a voluntary Board of Directors, also known as the Management Committee. The committee's role is to support and strengthen the ongoing work of the organisation, providing guidance to its direction, and supporting the workers.

Directors are elected by NCADC members at our Annual General Meetings, or, when vacancies arise, are appointed during the year. Any Director appointed in this way must stand down at the AGM, but are free to stand for election.

MAIN PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF THE POSITIONS

NCADC seeks to have a strong and balanced Management Committee, with a mix of skills and knowledge that come from experience in work and life. We value the direct experience of campaigning for your rights in the asylum and immigration system as much as we need the skills required to manage projects and workers. We have a full induction and training programme for all new Directors.

We are particularly interested in receiving nominations and applications from people with the following areas of expertise/experience:

1) Campaigning
2) Human resources
3) Finance
4) Publicity and media relations
5) Legal

Person/skills specification

  • Commitment to the rights of migrants regardless of status and to the work of NCADC
  • First-hand experience or knowledge of the UK deportation system and of the issues that an asylum-seeker or migrant might face
  • Experience with the voluntary sector and not for profit organisations
  • Being available to workers for advice and enquiries on an ad hoc basis

What is expected of a management committee member

Communication and Support: We encourage people who are interested in running for election to apply regardless of their location in the UK. However, management committee members are expected to give advice to staff and other Management Committee members on the phone when the need arises, respond to emails in a timely fashion and meet with staff members from time to time, sharing the workload as required. We would expect a commitment of about 3 to 4 hours a month for these routine matters.

Management Committee members need to be in touch with what is happening both in terms of NCADC anti-deportation campaigns generally, and the issues being addressed by the committee in particular.

Bi-Monthly Meetings and sub-committees: We expect that members of management committee will attend MC meetings once every two months (these meetings can be anywhere in the UK, but your travel expenses will be paid). Management Committee members are usually also expected to join a minimum of one sub-committee, for example Campaigns or Fundraising. Workload might fluctuate depending on the tasks that the sub-committee decides to take on. There will also be occasional weekend training or meetings outside the bi-monthly meetings that will be necessary to attend.
